Shree Amarnath Pilgrimage

Trip Overview

Shree Amarnath Pilgrimage stands as a spiritual journey to the sacred Swayambhu Lingam (self-emanated Ice form of Lord Shiva), enshrined in the Himalayan cave of Amareshwora known as Amarnath Cave (3,878 m/12720 ft). The Amarnath Cave is located in the Kashmir valley. The earliest Puranas and descriptions of the significance of the Kashmir valley and holy pilgrimage to the Amarnath cave in the Sanatan tradition are available in Nilamata Purana, Bhrigu Samhita, Amareshwora Kalpa, Amarnath Mahatmya, Kalhan’s Rajtarangini and many travel accounts. According to the Shaiva Puranas Lord Shiva revealed the secret Tantra of immortality (Amar Katha) to Mata Parvati at this holy cave of Amarnatha. According to the Puranas, Lord Shiva chose this isolated Himalayan cave, away from villages and settlements, by leaving His entourage of Nandi, Chandra, Sheshanaga, Ganesh, and Five Elements at various locations of the Kashmir valley and Lord Shiva created His own replica as Kalagni and ordered him to set fire and eliminate every living creature in and around the Holy Cave. Lord Shiva upon entering the cave along with Mata Parvati transferred the secret Tantra of immortality to Her. While He was transferring the secret teachings, a pair of doves flew in and learnt the secret, and it is believed that they became immortal. Even today these birds can be seen by some lucky pilgrims. There are two more self-manifested Ice Lingams flanked around Iced Swoyambhu Shiva Lingam symbolizing Parvati (Shakti) and Ganesha (Wisdom).

This pilgrimage also includes a journey to the sacred shrine Cave of Mata Vaishno Devi (1585 m / 5200 ft), located in the Trikuta hills of Jammu. The total length of the Cave where Mata Vaishno Devi has her abode is approximately 88 feet. Millions of devotees make a pilgrimage to Vaishno Devi Temple every year. Amarnath and Vaishno Devi temple embody the divine Shakti tirtham. There are symbols of large numbers of Sanatana gods and goddesses inside the holy Cave. The inner sanctum of the Cave has shrines of Mata Maha Kali, Mata Maha Lakshmi Vaishno Devi, and Mata Maha Saraswoti. Each year, during the holy month of Shravan, nearly 200,000 pilgrims undertake this demanding yet transformative pilgrimage. Holy water, known as Charan Ganga, flows out of the holy Pindies, where devotees bath before entering into the Cave, the same water is also collected by the pilgrims and carried to home as Tirtha Jal.

Shree Amarnath Pilgrimage is managed, organized, and facilitated by Karnali Excursions. This pilgrimage is designed following the Sanatan Shaiva, Shakta, and Tantra traditions. We would like to invite the seekers, pilgrims, and travel enthusiasts to walk the ancient paths of Shree Amarnath Pilgrimage for liberation and connection with the divine realization of Satyam Shivam Sundaram.
